Fast Electric racing

We race a restricted class of fast electric boats. They are raced round an M shaped course for 15 laps with two races making up each event. After 10 events the driver with the most points wins the club championship.

The motor and batteries allowed are restricted to keep the cost down.

Class rules

• Maximum boat length is 24 inches
• Motor is a standard 540 or equivalent, Cost not to exceed £20
• Battery pack is 6 sub C nickel cadmium cells, capacity 1.4aH maximum
• Propellor must be plastic of 35mm diameter with standard pitch
• Models should be of semi-scale appearance and should carry a driver figure if possible
• A racing number must be carried, not smaller than 1 inch in height

Most of the club race a boat design called a Sloopy, mostly the mark 2 version but there is still a mark 1 version racing. As the boats are nearly identical this leads to close racing especially around the turn marks.

Club members have regularly won the Scottish National championship fast electric class.
