Radio Six metre Yachts

six metre
yacht These yachts are built to the international 6 metre rules. The class rules are rather complicated involving a number of measurements which are used to calculate whether the yacht fits the class or not. At the moment club boats are not measured but must have been built to a recognised 6 meter design or have been registered in the past. Many of the yachts are older free sailing yachts that have been converted to radio control. The oldest documented boat was first registered in the 1930's.

The 6 metre class has a much more scale like appearance with the rules producing a yacht that is a reduced scale version of a full size 6 metre. While we have a few new yachts in the class the older boats are still competitive when sailed well.

The yachts use both rudder and sail control and therefore need a two channel radio control. While the rules do not prohibit the use of a spinnaker while racing no one has attempted this due to the difficulty involved in producing a working version.

The racing rules used are a simplified version of the MYA rules.
