R36r yachts

These yachts are built to the international rules for the Radio 36 inch restricted class. Most are built from a glass fibre hull produced by a club member. This design was originally produced for the clubs centenary and is intended to have more of a scale look than many modern racing yachts. These yachts use rudder and sail control and need a 2 channel radio control.

The basic class rules are :-

1. The hull excluding fittings must fit in a box 36 inches long, 9 inches wide and 11 inches deep.

2. The maximum weight of the complete yacht is 12 pounds.

3. The maximum rudder thickness is 1/2 inch

4. Ballast must not be changed when racing

5. Centerboards, movable keels or trim tabs are not allowed

6. Masts and spars must be made of wood or metal, no carbon fibre allowed

7. A maximum of 2 channels of radio control

8. No spinnakers allowed

The racing rules used are a simplified version of the MYA racing rules. The yachts sail around a triangular course arranged to suit the wind direction. One leg og the course is a beat into the wind with a second leg a run before the wind. The number of laps sailed is chosen on the day depending on wind strength.
